    29-3-38 The Penal Days
Long ago there was a big wood in Dalkey. It was situated on Dalkey Hill. The English soldiers use to chase the Catholic priests because of their religion. The priests found caves in the woods and they hid there. Whenever they were going to say Mass they would disguise themselves and warn people. Once during the Mass they were chased and a great many were slain. The rest fled to the Island. After a time all the priests were captured or had to go somewhere else.
