  1. I heard this story from my father Hugh Cunningham – N.J. (now dead). Castletown, Dunkineely, Co Donega.l
    He heard this version from his father John Cunningham N.J. Killybegs, Co. Donegal
    Who was born about 1830.
    On a bleak night in 1801 a girl named Carre was coming though the gap of Barnesmore from “Beyond the Mountains”. Suddenly a coach and four appeared going the direction of Donegal. The girl being tired hailed the coachman and asked for a lift. The coachman refused her request saying that he was in a hurry, as he had to be in Killybegs to pick up the soul of Mc Doal.
    The scene now changes to the Mediterranean. A Captain Strong, navigating his ship through the Tyrhennian Sea saw some queer object approach from the north west. Nearer approached
