    All she could tell was that after she got on the road leading to her home, she could not stop running and knew nothing until she found herself on the cliff. It was said by the old people that what saved her was the grains of salt which were in the salt herring she had along with her goods. If you have grains of any kind with you, on Hallow Eve the fairies can't get proper control over you. It was a usual custom for the old people if they were going out after sunset on Hallow Eve to put a few grains of salt on their heads.
