  1. The Caitileens go out from seven to ten o'clock on November night. A number of boys dress and go from house to house like the Wren boys on Saint Stephens day. Sometimes they wear straw hats which cover their faces and come down over their shoulders. They turn their coats inside out and most of them wear skirts and petticoats and they look like women. They put humps on their backs with hays and cover their shows with mud so as to pretend they travelled a long distance. One of them carries a bat? One called The Granny to sit on as she does b? tired. They also feel her pulse to see if they are walking too hard for her. The people of the house always welcomes the Caitileens in to the house. The Granny only sits down and the rest of them stand up. One of them carries a flute to play on and the rest of them dance a halfset. They sing songs before they leave. Sometimes the people give them pennies. When they are going away and do not get money they shout "when you die that the skin of a goose may make
