    Once upon a time there lived a man named Bill Cooper. He was a blacksmith and was very fond of drink.

    The devil took the sledge and when he tried to leave it down he found that it was stuck to him. He went back to hell and all the devils tried to release him from the sledge but they failed. The devil came back to the forge and said, "I'll give you seven more years if you release me from the sledge." So Bill did release him. The next seven years were nearly up. One day when Bill was working in the forge the devil shouted in but would not go into the forge. "Are you ready to come Bill?" said the devil. "I am," said Bill. "Come up to the house I have to see my wife before I go."
    They went up to the house. When they went into the house Bill told the devil to sit on the armchair till he was ready. The devil sat down till Bill was ready.
    When Bill was ready he said to the devil "I'm ready now are you coming?" When the devil went to leave the chair he found that he was stuck to it. They knew this in hell. All the devils in hell tried to release him from the armchair but they failed.
    The devil came back to the forge and said "I'll give you seven years more
