  1. Flax was grown by most farmers of the locality about forty or fifty years ago and made into Linen from which the people made their own sheets, shirts and other articles of clothing.
    Farmers grew the crop in patches big enough to satisfy their own needs.
    The flax is sown in the field, like oats, or it may be grown in plots like rape.
    It is sown in April and May.
    When the flax ripens in the harvest-time, it is pulled and tied into small sheaves.
    Then it is taken to a big hole of water, and put into it. Stones are places on the flax to keep it weighed down. This process is called "bogging" the flax.
