  1. Pat O'Keefe was a native of Meensquane, two miles from Abbeyfeale, on the left bank or Kerry side of the river Feale. he was of the respectable farming clan. Being a great patriot, he was obliged to leave Ireland to avoid a "trap" in 1867.
    In tears and grief dear Pat O'Keefe
    My muse has in a dream
    Acquainted me your destiny
    Was not beside that stream
    That noon and dawn thro' Meensquane
    With graceful flow serene
    Glides by that spot where first you got
    Your vigour herculean.
    In the days we date how hard is fate!
    To say on Native soil,
    There is no room, for pride of bloom
    For the hardy sons of toil.
    Those alien ires that chased our sires
    Still rankle at our core
    And make us wail at every sail
    That leaves our native shore.
    Our noble race, alas we trace
    To every clime and shore
    Where freedom's won beneath the sun,
