    This account was related by Mr. Bartholomew Hickey of Meenleitrim, Knocknagoshel, Co. Kerry.
    He is a farmer. Meenleitrim is his native townland and there he has lived all his life.
    Thatched houses are becoming rare along the main road leading from Abbeyfeale to Castleisland.
    No newly-built houses are thatched and the thatched ones are gradually being replaced by solid well-ventilated slated buildings all over the
