    In olden times the May Day customs were as important as those of Christmas.

    In olden times the May Day customs were as important as those of Christmas. All the young people used to gather at some public house in the town. They would go out to a farmers's house in the country where their arrival would be expected. Here they would be entertained. First they would get what was "Junket" made from fresh milk and rinnet. This was eaten with sugar and cream. Sometimes they were treated to sloe and elderberry wine. After that a dance was held. If the
