- (continued from previous page)and girls were home from service with the farmers. The length of time each school lasted was about six weeks. They generally started at six o'clock in the evening and lasted until ten o'clock. All the different step dancing such as the Irish jig, reel, and hornpipe were taught and also the different figure dances such as the right hand-reel and sixteen-hand reel and Ionnsuidhe na h-Inse, the Rince Fada, the waves of Tory. The last of the old Irish dancing schools in Glenbeigh was held at my grandfather's house about thirty two years ago. It was then held with the permission of the parish priest. When the six weeks were up the Benefit day was usually held at some cross-road, and every scholar paid up. The money collected was divided between the dancing master and the fiddler.
