    were an especial object of attack on account of the silver sacramental vessels and the vestments they contained. Among other places they plundered was Cloyne in 852. A few years later they came again when the abbot of Cloyne was murdered. There is much reason for supposing that it was at this time the tall and graceful Round Towers were built. St Colmans feast is celebrated each year on the 24th of November.
