- The cure for a sore finger long ago was a poultice of boiled turnips.
The cure for a wart was to get up early in the morning, and rub a black snail on it, and put him on a blackthorn bush, until the wart would wear off. If there was a rock with a hole that would hold water, and if you washed your wart in it for three mornings the wart would go.
For a sore throat they used to put roasted salt in a stocking and tie it round their necks, and another cure was to rub paraffin oil around it.
