  1. Sergeant Grinds, who lived in Ballymahon about forty-four years ago used to throw a 4 stone weight 16 yds. 2 ft.
    Peter Boyle, Lislum was able to throw a finger stone 150 per. He died about 32 years ago.
    Mick Eivers, Palace used to run a three-mile race from the Pigeons to Ballymahon, in fifteen mins. and win it. The races used to be held in the Green, Ballymahon. He died about 50 years ago.
    John Duffy, Kilcurray, ran against him but never beat him. He is dead only about 4 years.
    John Dorethy, Tashinney, walked 52 miles in a day.
