- My father sows half an acre of potatoes every year. The potatoes are sown in ridges, each ridge about three feet wide, with a deep "shough" between every two ridges. A plough is used to prepare the soil before sowing the potatoes. In olden times people used wooden ploughs.
The woman of the house usually cuts the slits.
Three slits are laid across the ridge an equal distance between them The farmer continues like this until he has the ridge finished. Them he covers them with soil which he digs out(continues on next page)- Collector
