- The Bloody Pass
The "Bloody Pass" is the name given to a part of the river Erne about three miles from Belturbet. Long ago there was a ford marked with twigs in that spot so that in time of war the Irish could find the ford easily if they wanted to cross the river.A traitor cut the twigs and when the Irish were trying to retreat, they could not find the ford and the enemy came along and killed them all. Their blood colored the water of the river so much that ever since the spot has been called "The Bloody Pass"- Bailitheoir
