    Two singers to an early tomb ¶ Did doleful Death ingather ¶ And all the land is set in gloom ¶ For these two dead together.

    Two singers to an early tomb
    Did doleful Death ingather
    And all the land is set in gloom
    For these two dead together.
    Industrious Death! we harvest - time
    Our heavy harvest reaping,
    Culling your victims in their prime,
    Regardless of our weeping.
    Ill - starred July! how wantonly
    You stole from us our dearest,
    Unmindful of the tear or sigh,
    Of kith or kin the nearest;
    'Tis true they loved you, did these two,
    They loved your Summer flowers;
    You lured them hence with summer-dew,
    And what a grief is ours.
