  1. During the end of October salmon come up the river to spawn. The young men of the district go out at night with torches, blind the fish and try and catch them.
    This is poaching and is against the law so they have to be wary in case the water keeper would catch them. If this happened, they would be taken to the law courts and fined heavily.
    On Hallow Eve Night the young people play many tricks one is to pull cabbage in the garden and throw these at the closed door of the owner's house. The
