  1. God bless that home, may every care
    Far from its portals flee;
    For long its dear protecting walls
    Have kindly sheltered me.
    Tho' I have left it now for aye,
    'Mong other scenes to roam,
    My heart flies back on wings of love
    To childhood's happy home.
    Each tree and shrub I loved so well
    Are graven on my heart;
    The memory of each field and flower
    My soul shall never part.
    In dreams I see the banks and braes,
    And Swilly's rushing foam,
    The trees, the hillocks that surround
    My childhood's happy home.
    And yet I care not there to dwell,
    When early friends are gone:
    The sisters kind, the brothers true,
    Have left it, one by one;
    Deserted are the dear old rooms
    Where pleasure loved to come,
    And a solitude asserts its reign
