- Hundreds of years ago the men that lived in the south had to go to the north to earn a living. One night a man came home after his year's work and he took sick immediatly and was going to die. This man had a wife and one son that was born the night he came home. He told his wife before he died that he had a seed in his pocket that would produce a great tree and when his son would be twenty one years, if he could pull this tree, he could go to the north and earn his living but not before.When the man died and was buried, his wife set the seed and after seven years the mother brought her son out to the garden to see if he could pull the tree but he only could stir it. She then brought him into the house for seven years more and she fed him well. She then brought him out again and this time he stirred the tree and all the garden about it. He was now fourteen years and after seven years more she brought him out again and this time he pulled the tree and he swung it three times around his head and sent it whirling through the air for several miles.(continues on next page)
