   Once upon a time there lived a young soldier round this part of the country. One evening he was coming along the road and he met an old woman coming along whistling. The old woman asked him could he be any happier. The soldier said he could if he had more money. The old pointed to a tree not far from him.
   She told him to go to that tree and climb it and go down inside in it. She told him also that he would get gold in one corner, silver in another and copper in the third and that there were three hounds minding them then but he would get a red cloth and to spread it out in the middle of the floor and that the hounds would let him get the money. She told him also that he would get a small box left at the gold and to bring it out to her.
   He did so. But when he went in the hounds started tearing but he spread out the cloth and they stopped. He had all the money in his own name. He got the small box and came out again to the woman. He asked the woman what did she want the box for but she said that she would not tell him. He drew the sword and cut the head off her.
   She said The soldier went home with the small box. He gave plenty of money to every one asked any off him. His money was getting smaller every day until he was as poor as ever. He was so poor one night that he had not any light.
   He did not know what he would do for money. He thought light might come out of the box. He took it in his hands
