- 1) There is a story told about a giant named Monover who was an English giant. He wanted to fight Finn. One windy day Monover came to fight Finn. When Finn's mother saw the giant Finn told her the trouble he was in. She put him in a big cradle that was in the house. The wind was blowing in the door and when the giant came to the door he asked "Why is this wind blowing in the door?" She replied that Finn was from home. Otherwise he would have changed the wind around. The Giant left when he heard Finn was away. Finn's mother baked a cake when the giant left. She covered the griddle with dough top and bottom and baked it. The giant returned and she offered him some cake to eat. He could not bite his way through the cake but Finn's mother said Finn never found any trouble in eating her cakes. This was too much for Monover, he left.(continues on next page)
