  1. There was a man living in Castleboy. His name was Mr Dudley Persse. he was Lady Gregory's father. He was a very cruel to his tenants. There was a priest in Kilchreest and he preached a sermon about Persse, off the altar at mass on Sunday. It is said the priest cursed him and that soon after he died.
    His son heard this and he became very angry. He had a big feast, and he invited the priest and he came. He asked the priest could he prove what he said in the Church the Sunday before. He said he could. The priest took out a book and began to read it. He called Persse the man that was dead, and he called him a few times.
    When he called him the third time, he came down in chains through the ceiling. The priest asked him why he did not come first. ''He said they were loosening the chains.'' He asked him why didn't he come the second time- ''they were opening the gates.'' I came the third time because I was coming. when he came down through the ceiling he stood on
