    To tide by bad times, Norris was forced to borrow from Latouche's Bank. The Latouches' were connected with the county and greatly interested in its development, but they were also shrewd bankers. So, reading the signs of the times- Free tase was getting fashionable- they foreclosed on Norris.
    Great then were the lamentation among the tenants, weavers, scutchers and spinners; but greater still was the rage of Norris. He thought, rightly or wrongly, that the Latouches had let him down though they had offered him his land back as tenant. His faith and hope had failed him and he wanted no man's Charity.
