  1. Charles Stewart Parnell was a great Irish statesman in the British House of Commons. He organised a great Irish party, which obstructed the English law-making so that he forced Gladstone to pass through the House of Commons a Bill to give Home Rule to Ireland but which was afterwards thrown out by the House of Lords. He had a wonderful following (and was) in the country too and was looked up to as the greatest Irish leader since O'Connell. Shortly before his death he went on a tour through Ireland to get the people to support him
