    and fastened at the top with a stick or a nail. The backing fat was poured into the mould to set when it had set the mould was out near the fire for a few minutes. Then the candle was taken out.
    They also made branched candles. Four long cords were got and knotted together:-
    A can of water was put on the fire and some fat was put into it. Then someone would keep dipping the cords into the tallow. It was then put away to set.
