    The wool was now taken to a weaver. The weaver had a great big frame. The wool was fastened to this and it was woven by hand into flannen. This was very hard work. Frieze was also made in this way but papers were burnt to give it the colour.

    In olden days flax was grown in this district. The seed was bought at Currens Fair and was sown a few days later. When the flax was cut, it was put into a stream and stones put on top of it. When it got soft it was taken out and spread to dry in the sun. After a while the outer skin came off. It was then brought into a house and
