  1. There was a great famine in the years 1846 and 1847. The old people can tell many things about it.
    This is one of stories connected with this district.
    Nearly all the people lived upon the potato crop. When the potato crop failed they had nothing to eat. A man lived in Beechy-park. He had a field of turnips, and he sold half for a very large sum of money to a man in Dublin. The people around told him not to sell any more of them to him and he kept them for them and sold them at a much smaller
