    a gate of over six feet high in Ards. The butler himself mad e a sorry attempt to jump it but was caught in the spokes of the gate and seriously wounded. No one was able to jump the gate but Charlie Mór as he was called. He received £16 for his great feat.
    On another occassion, Lord Stuart was out in his pleasure boat, ahich capsized while they were out in deep water. The cries of the occupants of the boat soon brought large crowds to the shore but none could render any assistance until as the old song says:- "bounding over field and fence came Charlie of Faymore". Without the least hesitation he quickly threw off his clothes, plunged into the water, and in a very short time, he had the boat upturned and the occupants brought to safety. He received £10 for his heroic deed.
    On another occassion, while in possession of a jar of poteen he was pursued by two policemen. On reaching the water's edge he calmly jumped in and swam from Creevie to Doe Castle a distance of nearly two miles.
    Another time the men from the parish of Doe assembled and marched to Dunfanaghy to drive the Tithe-collector named Moore out of the district. The soldiers gathered around him to protect him but the first to break through their ranks was
