- Why this village was called Lehid.
Lehid is a small village about six miles north of Tuam.
About two miles from the place there was a monastery, and the Nuns of that monastery were very greedy for land.
One day the head nun called a meeting and said, that all the land which her shawl would cover should be hers. This nun had great power. She threw her shawl and it flew off and lay in the middle of Lehid, and it began spreading until it covered the whole of the land which is now called Lehid. In Irish it is called leithead which means width.- Bailitheoir
