- Churns and Churning.
When the cow had plenty of milk my mother made a churning twice in the week. If a stranger came into the house when she is making the churning he would take the churn dash to help, or he would bring the butter with him.
About two pounds of butter we get cach time we churn. About a half an hour it takes us to make the churning.
There are five hoops in our churn. Up and down we beat the churn-dash. The height of our churn is 22 inches and its width is 25 inches on top.
The special names of the parts of the churn in Irish are, an cuinneóg, an cláp. an lovine (?), agus an claitín.
