  1. The time of the Land League the people were warned by the Blackboys as they were called as they defended the people if they were to be evicted not to pay the rent. Any person who was suspected of attempting to pay it got warning in the following way. A coffin was drawn out on the door and under it these words were written.
    "Pay no rent but Griffith's valuation"
    "Or if you do your term here will be of short duration."
    "So make up your mind without hesitation
    "Or your corpse shall occupy the above engraving"
