    She would call to the driver to stop the animal now and again, to be careful perhaps the lid might be open, and if the animal stirred when the barrel would be in that position, there would be an amount of damage done.
    Small farmers had a different way for churning. They had a small "dash churn" and it was made like a tank, with a round hole in the centre of lid with a dash in the churn and a long handle coming through the lid. A woman catch the handle up and down until the butter is made.
    There are small churns called "End over End" churns as they are turned a different way to the old churns. When the butter is made you would know by the sound inside. I will now relate an incident that happened about five years ago. One day a woman went into her neighbour's house, the butter was churning and the farmer said that her cake was burning. The farmer said she would churn until the other
