  1. The majority of the people used not wear boots or shoes until they were about fourteen years of age up to fifty or sixty years ago except the higher classes.
    There feet were so strong and hardy that they could run across broken glass without been hurt, in fact, in William St. about forty years ago both boys and girls used play in this manner. Most boys and girls were bare-footed.
    Clogs were worn by most of the farming people many years ago, they were made locally of wooden soles and leather uppers. They were warm if not comfortable footwear but were healthy. Rheumatism
