Brogues were made of rough course leather and were worn by country people in their ordinary work around the farm, tilling, ploughing, etc. They were dry comfortable footwear but your feet should be accustomed to them before you could work in them. They were sometimes worn by mountainy people coming to town but this was a rare scene.
