Belturbet has always been noted for the great number of "Travelling Folk" who visit it. They come from all parts of Ireland - North, South, East and West. The cause of this may be because Belturbet is built on the mail- coach road from Dublin or because the people of the town have the name of being very generous and kind although they are not wealthy.
Some of the tramps walk and others come in carts or caravans. Many of them travel singly and others in families or bands. Before a fair day crowds come to the town.
A few of the tramps sing or play musical instruments on the streets(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
