Marriages usually took place during spring and summer. The month of May was considered a very unlucky month as was said - "Marry on May, and you'll rue the day" Saturday was also a very unlucky day -
"Marry on Monday, marry for wealth;
Marry on Tuesday, marry for health;
Marry on Wednesday, the best day of all;
Marry on Thursday, marry for crosses;
Marry on Friday, marry for losses;
Marry on Saturday, not luck at all.
In olden times stock was given as dowry, also money. Two or three people went when making a match to the girl's house. They usually took a bottle of whiskey with them(continues on next page)- Collector
