    would race against each other with their horses to see which one had the best horse. Sometimes the wives would sit on the horses with their husbands.

  2. Weddings are mostly in spring and harvest. Weddings are also on Shrove Tuesday as it is the day before the first of Lent. Saturday is said to be a very unlucky day to get married.
    Matches used to be made in this district. Money used to be given as dowry and some times cattle or horses were given. Sometimes rich people got married in their own houses. A wedding feast is held in the bride's house at night.
    Straw-boys do not come to the houses now but they used to come. They had old
