  1. About two hundred years ago there was little trace of the modern Skerries (so called from the rocky coast surrounding it).
    Holmpatrick containing the old windmill and a few scattered thatched houses on the south side and Hoar Rock with a few fisherman's cabins on the north side formed the basis of the town of Skerries. Between Holmpatrick and Hoar Rock the Kybe[?] river flowed over the low lying plain to the sea.
