  2. In Beagh about two and a half miles from Gort, there is a graveyard, and the ruins of an old church are to be seen there. It is supposed to be the oldest graveyard in Ireland.
    In the penal days when the priests were not allowed to say mass, a small church was erected in the graveyard because that place was out of the way of the English soldiers. When the penal days were over, the church and graveyard were made bigger.
