- (continued from previous page)party drove to the church, where marriage was celebrated, the bride been given away by her father, or in his absence, a near relative. They then drove from the church to the bridegroom's house, there was more feasting, and dancing and music, which continued all through the night.
In these days there were no motor cars, the Irish jaunting car, and horses with saddles and women even drove on pillions fixed behind, with the men on horses. The more cars at the bringing home of the bride, was the sign of the riches of the groom.
When hauling home, as it was called, left the church, some of the men, with horses and saddles galloped to see who would be first at the bridegroom's house. The first to come was liberally treated to strong drink and the best of the feast.- Collector
