She stumbled, she staggered
She swaggered, she fell;
And the policemen all thought
She had drunk "Double-L"4.
Now, down she did sit
At the end of the street,
And quickly she took
The "nineteen" off her feet.
Her round heels and ankles
And up-turned toes
Were blistered and swollen
And as red as a rose5.
A lady, being standing
Convenient to Joan,
She listened awhile
To her sorrowful moan;
