  1. The bread which the people had in olden times was far different from the bread which is in use nowadays. The chief kinds of bread were griddle bread , stampy and oatmeal bread. The griddle bread was made of Indian Meal wet with boiling water and baked flat and thin on a griddle. The griddle was a flat round piece of iron shaped like the bottom of an oven with a handle on either side.
    Stampy bread was made from potatoes. This was done by scraping raw potatoes with a grater. The scraped potatoes were then squeezed through a cloth and
