  1. Churning is done much the same in most places now as it was done in olden times. The churns in use in olden times were the Box, the Barrel, the Atmospheric and the Plunger Upright churn which was worked by means of a dasher.
    The milk vessels used were made of a certain kind of wood called "bráckeen." (bráicín)
    There were lots of superstitions in connection with churning. On churning day anybody who came into the house had to strike a stroke on the churn lest he should
