- In former times the people were about twelve years of age before they wore boots. The children go barefoot in the summer at present, but they do not in the winter.
The water is thrown out after washing the feet, my mother told me that she heard it said that you might as well have a corpse in the house as to have water in which feet were washed. There are no boots made locally or repaired except in the village of Muff about two miles from this school. There are two shoemakers in the village of Muff. There were some shoemakers in this district in former times but there are none at present. The reason of the change is, the factories can produce boots and shoes more cheaply, and shoes they can be bought in the shops. Clogs were worn locally, but they were not made locally.
