  1. Marriages take place before lent or Advent some wait until Shrove Tuesday. The month of May is considered an unlucky month for marriages and Thursday is an unlucky day.
    There are lots of matches made in my district. In days gone by the used to give a few acers of land as dowry. The people used to get married in the houses about one hundred years ago. Bandbeggars visit the houses and dress themselves with straw and dance & cheer and throw an old boot or tin cans after
