- Some few years ago before the creameries were begun different sorts of churns were used.One kind of a churn was worked by a horse. It was worked like a small threshing machine. The barrel would be in the dairy and the horse would be going around outside. He would be connected to the churn by a wheel and belt.A dash churn was like a tanker. It was standing on the floor. The beaters had a wooden handle, a round piece of wood with hole in it to let the cream out. There was a hole in the lid to let the handle of the dash out.
