  1. Marriages usually take place before Lent or after Easter in my district. Wednesday is the usual day. The old people always said:-
    "Monday for health,
    Tuesday for wealth,
    Wednesday the best day of all,
    Thursday for losse's,
    Friday for crosses,
    Saturday no luck at all."
    Matches were made in my district and money given as "fortune". Long ago the brides got cows and turf-banks. On the wedding day when the bride and groom were going to the church it was customary to throw an old
