  1. Some years ago in our parish when the marriage was celebrated in the church there was always a rush for the door to see which the bride or bridegroom would be out first. This was done because it was supposed that whichever of them got out first would die last. Then the journey home was done on horseback, and the bride and bridegroom sat together on the horse. If the bridegroom's party arrived home first it was said that he would outlive the bride.
