  1. Many years ago there lived in Ballintrieve a woman named Maggie Doherty. This woman was very poor and was scarcely able to live any longer.
    To her surprise, a small fair woman entered one evening. This fairy - knowing all about her poverty - had good news for her. She told Maggie that she would give her plenty of everything if she would take care of it. Maggie assured her that she would.
    The fairy did as she promised, and gave her plenty. The best of all was a big white cow. Maggie was as happy as she had wished to be. She hadn't to work to get money because
