  1. Long, long ago there lived a man whose name was "Pat Kavanagh." This man one day wanted a stick. He went up to a place where fairies are supposed to be. So he cut the stick. When he was coming home, he had to pass a river. The stones leaped out and hit him in the face. Tommy Carey who is a local farmer of Drumfries saw all this, and he told Pat Kavanagh to leave the stick back where he got it. He did so and nothing happened [to] him.
